This week we are going over adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers. We are going to have our first grades from Khan Academy work entered this week. The kids are having trouble getting this permission form paper home and signed by you. I will begin to enter grades or missing grades this week based on their homework on google classroom. Your child needs your permission to sign up, but they can still do the work without a student account. They just need to show me their score. This is a little harder for me and for them. If you are willing and can sign the form have them return it. This will allow them to save any score they have on Khan academy and it also allows them to keep working until they get above 80% or 90% or even until they get to 100%. My requirement is that they get above 80%. For me, this means their practice is sufficient. The goal here is to give them as much practice as is practical so that they are ready for the test. I have attached a copy of the permission form for Khan Academy.
We will test this chapter on October 16th. Their notes are due by the 18th. Because we do our notes online the kids will get a few more days to turn in the notes.
Lastly and probably most importantly, remember Any homework can be corrected for full credit up to the end of the quarter. Also, any TEST or Quiz can be re done on their own time, in my classroom, any time this year. My philosophy about this is that not everyone will test out well the first time and that should not prevent them from getting an A or B. Not every child will understand every set of skills at the same time. So, if they want to put in the effort and come in; I will re teach the skills. Also, they can redo assignments and do many practices on Khan academy. The online practice is very good because they get immediate feedback on each problem with help right in the program should they need it. If they do the practice, they will know the material better and score better on a retake. I give full points for a retake, but they will always get the better of the scores on the two tests. Check your child's latest test score. To my mind they should retake if they score less than a 75%. And they should retake it twice (yes twice) if they do not do too well on the second try. Please be sure to email me at [email protected] with any questions. Mr.Dellwo
