The beginning of the Third Quarter
We begin the third quarter with a new book. Ninety Five percent of my old books were collected last week and are checked in. I have a few more to collect and a few more new books to pass out. We are now in the second book. We will be working with ratios and rates. The work will be in comparisons of differing objects through amounts and the use of ratios to do that. This is less abstract than the algebra we worked on last quarter and more easily seen as connected to real life in the form of rates like miles per gallon or dollars per ounce, etc. Our first test will be the 12th of February. With some quizzes in between. Remember that all home work, projects, classwork, etc will not be accepted after the end of the quarter but that any test or quiz can be retaken for a better score and if it improves the grade impacting a previous quarter grade a new report card will be issued for that quarter. Test count 50% of the quarter grade, quizzes 20% and Homework 20%. Projects and class work 5% each. For a total of 100% for each quarter. So you can see that a test redone by someone who now understands the concepts better could be a good thing to do. On the flip side; it is disheartening for a person who takes the test cold, with out study, on the hope of doing better. A look ahead sees parent teacher conferences March 4th and 5th. If you wish to meet with any teacher or teacher team before then just give your child's advisor a call and a meeting will be set. All the best, Mr Dellwo

Happy New Year! We are back and back running. We will do a refresher on equations for a couple of days and then get into adding and subtracting terms across the equal sign and solving complex equations. Friday and Monday, we will be taking the Aspire Test. This is our mid-year benchmark. On the 17th of January we will turn in our books and on the 21st of January will get new books and begin working with measurement and proportions. This will get us into interesting problems to solve regarding measurement of objects like the height of flag poles, houses, etc. Remember, the week of the 20th of January we have Monday the 20th (Martin Luther King Day) off and Friday the 24th off. Thursday the 23rd is the last day of the quarter and has a NOON RELEASE. Thanks for reading this… Mr. Dellwo Christmas is just about here.
In the Math Realm we have two more homework assignments before the break (We had page 132 problems 1-15 over the weekend and then adding problems 16 – 26 for tonight and then the coordinate plane project) and then we have a test on Wednesday over solving problems and showing the math algebraically. Our test, on Wednesday, will consist of one and two step equations, using the distributive property and then combining like terms to solve equations. We will solve problems like the one below: 5 ( 3 + x ) + - 2 ( 6 + x ) = 9 On Thursday the coordinate plane is due (we have had a week and 2 days on it). And on Friday we review some math concepts. Just a reminder; the quarter ends January 23rd. That is only 2 full weeks and 3 days after the Holidays. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Years. 6 December 2019 Math Blog I am in the middle of helping kids fix there Block 3 test scores. I have provided students with a chance to come in and work on the types of problems the test on Block three was about. I also provided a pass so they could come in at Lunch. If f your child was at 21.5/ 43 on the test they got a pass inviting them. On Tuesday of this week, 1st period students came in and improved their test score by doing more practices and asking questions. We had fun and if you look online you will see an improved grade, both for the test, and consequently for the quarter. On Wednesday, 2nd Period students came in to improve their test score. We had fun and if you look online you will see an improved grade, both for the test, and consequently for the quarter . Today, Thursday, 3rd period students were invited. Unfortunately, none came in to improve their test score. If you look online, you will not see a change in their scores. On Friday 7th period students are invited and the students with a 21.5 out of 43 will receive a pass today in class to come in at lunch tomorrow. In class, we are deep into Algebra and solving 2 step equations. We will test on this and more on the 18th of December. I hope the season of Christmas is pleasant for you and that you and your children have a good break. I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas. Mr. Dellwo Beginning Algebra in Recovery Math
We are beginning to work on Algebra and will do so throughout December. Yesterday, we worked on one-step equations and will do so today also. We will not have homework tonight. I want to make sure of their being able to do this before I send homework home. Monday there may be some homework. Tuesday there will be no homework. Have a joyful Thanksgiving! I am in the process of attempting to have kids to come in and take or finish their tests for Block 3. We are moving into equations and so they need class time in class. The retake needs to be at advisor or lunch. Some have but others are avoiding. The scores on the re- take were better generally but not great overall even with the extra-practice. For the most part, the people who did the practice on time (not getting it in late) did much better on the retake. Just like you would expect. Others either were late in getting it done or did not do the work so the follow-up lesson on the given topic was not helpful to them and come re-take test time they did not do well. I will get the modified scores in this weekend. Any untaken retake or not done retake will go in as a zero until it is completed. We are moving into equations and solving for variables. Now and until Christmas we will be knee deep in algebra. I will keep you up to date on the progress and please check PowerSchool to see if your child has a test to finish or take (due to absence) and please encourage them to keep up on the assignments. Today there is no homework and Monday there will be. Tuesday there will be no homework. Have a joyful Thanksgiving! Mr. Dellwo Blog Nov 4 thru 15th
Hi again. We are finishing Block 3: Rational number operations. Kids have studied for the test, which is today, and they have Notes due also. Next week is parent teacher conferences so if you do not have a time already set up call your child’s advisor and set one up. We will work on estimation next week with only a couple of lessons and a small test and then begin a big block on Equations. This is the meat of the 7th grade and will last until Christmas. This requires a lot of practice so I will be sending kids home with equations to solve (not too many at a time.) We are also doing a canned food drive and it will be important that we all participate to help food share stock the larders for the holidays. My advisor has 200 items already and we are hoping to get 1000 items. That would be about 40 items (cans, packets) per student more. Send your child to school with some for their advisor too. We have been blessed in our lifetime; let’s pass it on. Mr Dellwo Blog for October 21st – 25th
Welcome back after 4 days of hunting, playing and relaxing. I have added grades for the Test we took on Wednesday. Also, I added grades for the 5 Khan academy assignments related to integers. They can improve their grade by doing the practice. Sometimes kids must see the low score before they feel an urgency. They can also do more practice and retake the test if their score is lower than they want it to be. After much instruction on notes for both the first block and the second block I have added the grades in and marked the missing work. We have notes every block so there is lots of practice on note taking. These too can be improved upon for a better score. The homework, notes and Khan academy assignments are all able to be redone or completed before the last day of the quarter, Friday, November 1st. We have two weeks before the quarter ends. We will be doing order of operations this week and then a test. This will be followed by Rational Number operations including positive and negative numbers. Following that, we will get into Equations and this will take us past Thanksgiving and up to Christmas. Lot’s to do. Mr Dellwo Blog for the week of the 14 through 16 of October
We have a three-day week next week ending in a test on Wednesday. I have set up some good practice on my google classroom for kids to do. They can access this practice well now after entering the online classroom many times in class. They should do the practice to 80% or better at least. They can just do the work again and again (the problems are dynamic) to get better and better at it to help prepare for the test on Wednesday the 16th. Each skill we worked on in class is represented in the integers section of the classwork. Kids who do not have an account because they have not received permission CAN still access the problems it just will not save their progress for them. Thanks to the many of you who had their child bring in a permission form for them to join Khan Academy. Now when they do practice, they can login and it will save any progress they make, and they will be able to see how much they are learning. I will begin adding in online work into the grade book this week and it will become part of the grade. The kids will have an “Online work grade” each week. I will keep this very doable during the week before the grade goes in so that if they use advisor or time in class, they can easily get through it. As with all assignments they can turn it in late before the end of the quarter and get full credit. Of course, it is better if it is done before the test. Have a good couple of days next week for family time (maybe Hunting?). I will be in Belgrade attending classes and I hope catching a movie Thursday night. 😊 As always please email me with any questions. All of my blogs are available online at dellwomath7.
